Hotan was a famous oasis which became an important pathway to other countries. From mainland China they carried silk and cotton textiles, carpets, and jewelry that is made from the great quantity of jade in the area. This carpet is hand-knotted in India with a blend of Gazni Afghan and Indian handspun wool, incorporating a high hand twisted base with a light twist in the motif giving an almost 3-D effect. This carpet is sure to be a functional piece of art that will last many lifetimes to be enjoyed by generations to come.
