Tufted Weave Area Rugs

Hand-tufted rugs are probably the best selling rug weave available today. Weavers use a ‘hand-tufting gun’ to inject tufts of material (usually wool) into a heavy frame foundation. A latex backing holds the material securely in place. The weaving process can be completed in a fraction of the time it would take to weave a similar rug using hand-tied knots. The thick, plush pile and character of the hand-created patterns provides charm and beauty rarely seen at such a low price-point.

Hand-tufted rugs are durable and can last for many years. They are ideal in rooms where comfort and ease of cleaning are important. However, they are prone to shedding and generally require vacuuming on a weekly basis, or as needed. Wool is the predominant fiber in tufted rugs, but you will also see many with viscose or cotton inlay to highlight pattern, as well as synthetic fibers for an even lower price and added stain/fade resistance, at the expense of durability.
